I have been exploring and reviewing hosiery I can buy locally. One of which, was a pair of VOODOO tights, a brand from Australia. In this article, I’d like to look into a pair of tights made locally.
A brief description about the brand… Columbine has been making hosiery since 1951. The company is located in Gisborne, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. They are the only remaining N.Z.-based hosiery maker, making a wide variety of hosiery for men, women and children. The Brand’s main focus is socks.
I didn’t find any info regarding the style on the Brand’s website. Hence I have very limited info on tights’ specs.

Strengths & Weaknesses
⊕ Fairly soft and smooth to the skin.
⊕ Small snags can be easily reverted.
⊗ Envelopment wasn’t satisfactory.
Packaging & product description
The tights are wrapped around a thin cardboard, which is then placed inside a transparent, plastic bag. The contents are then sealed in an envelope-like cover made of cardboard. There is a wide opening at the rear cover for costumers to view the actual colour of the product. One can also find the description, size chart on the rear cover.
The description on the rear cover reads:
“COLUMBINE EFFORTLESS BEAUTY”
- 10 Denier with lycra
- Shimmer finish
- Sheer waist to toe
- Cotton gusset
- Soft + Smooth feel
- Sheer toe
Appearance & texture
The Columbine EFFORTLESS BEAUTY is sheer tights (10 denier) in shiny fashion. The total length is approximately 101cm when laid on a flat surface. Its texture is relatively soft and smooth to touch. The knitted waistband measures 3cm wide. There is no tag on the inner side of the waistband and the hose is not shaped. Presumably one can wear back to front and vice versa. There is also a 1cm-wide fingerband, which extends and runs along both sides of the panty seam. The width of the fingerband is 3cm on either side of the seam. The length between the tip of the waistband and the crotch is around 26cm. There is a gusset made of cotton, and the toe section is lightly reinforced.
The composition was nylon, elastane and cotton. There is no exact percentage for each material.
There are three sizes for this style. I have included the size chart below. Size Tall is used for this review.
I am not sure how many colours are available for this style. The colour I bought for this review is Ebony, which is essentially black colour.
The fit was moderate. The length was sufficient and true to the size recommendation. The envelopment however, was not great. Since the tight didn’t undergo boarding (i.e., the legs are not shaped), it was rather loose on the calves and ankles. Such was vice versa on the upper thigh and panty.
The tights were relatively stretchy. I didn’t experience any wrinkles below the knees or around the ankles after long hours of wearing.
The knitted waistband was slightly tight but didn’t cause noticeable discomfort. In addition, the fit of the toe section was good.
The tights has a shiny appearance that is also visible in ambient light surrounding. It is more of a glittering shine than a mirror shine. The colour is evenly distributed. However, the knitting is occasionally distorted. This created uneven patches of colour on the legs, which was visible at close range.
I did snag the tights a couple times during wearing. Yet these tiny snags were easily reverted by pinching and pulling the nearby area.
The tights felt fairly soft & smooth, and were pretty comfortable to caress on. The seams on the panty are flat, but the ones on the toe section are ordinary seam, hence more noticeable. In addition, being sheer in nature, the tights are breathable.
The material is pretty comfortable to the touch but the absence of boarding left the style less matching to the silhouette of the body.
The retail price of the style is NZD$16.99. This is equivalent to €9.40, £8.47, or USD$11.23, at the time of writing this review. I bought it during end-of-season sale, which is 50% OFF the original price, making it a great bargain.
