Review: Wolford Edelweiss 20 Tights

I have mistaken this style with Individual 20 tights in the past.  So now is a good time to amend these errors.

Some tights make the leg stand out while some bring out the best of oneself.  Which one would the Edelweiss 20 tights belong to?  Let’s find out.

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ You can swap sizes thanks to especially stretchy yarn.
⊕ Very soft, smooth and comfortable to the skin.
⊕ Reinforced toe with extra room.

⊗ Uneven distribution of colour when not fully stretched.

Packaging & product description

The packaging uses a thin piece of cardboard, a tri-fold cardboard and a transparent plastic sleeve.  Such is a Wolford standard packaging for tights.  On the rear cover, you will find the product description in five languages, as well as size chart and tight specs.

The Cover says Individual 20 Tights with the item number: 14588.  Wolford later renamed the style to Edelweiss 20 tights, with the same item number.

Above and Below: Wolford has renamed the style to Edelweiss 20 (item No: 14588). This is different to the Individual 20 tights, which is 18267.
Item No: 14588, as shown at the bottom left corner.

The product description online and on the rear cover are identical, which reads:

“Noticeable lightness: These matt, sheer tights create a stylish look. The soft, high-stretch material has a unique softness. These tights fit perfectly thanks to the comfortably soft knitted waistband.”

  • Reinforced toes for increased durability
  • Cotton gusset
  • Elegance with the highest degree of comfort.

Appearance & texture

The Individual 20 is sheer tights (20 denier appearance) in total matte fashion.  It is sheer-to-waist.  The texture is very soft and silky to the touch.  It is also extremely stretchy!  The knitted waistband is 2.5cm wide.  There is also a finger band measuring 5cm wide.  There is a gusset, and the toe section is separately knitted for better durability.

The composition is 83% nylon and 17% elastane.

Size range

The sizing ranges from XS to XL.  I have included the chart below.  Size S is used in this review.

At the time of writing this review, there is only one colour available online, which is Black.  I bought Admiral for this review.

The fit was fairly good and true to the size recommendation.  The material was especially elastic!  Just to give you an idea…  I had a pair of Individual 10 tights in size L.  It fitted relatively good and did not bag or form wrinkles over time, despite being two sizes larger than my usual size.  The Edelweiss 20 has the same property as the Individual range.  This means you can play around with the sizes to find the one that fits you the best.  It is also because of this reason that the envelopment was very good both on the lower body and on the legs.

The waistband has a conventional width of 2.5cm.  It didn’t cause any discomfort for me though.  Wolford has since updated their Satin Touch 20 tights with an extra wide waistband.  I would love to see an upgrade on this style, or better, the entire Individual range.  In addition, the toe section is pressure-free, thus the fit was excellent!

This is where I find the tights to be most interesting.  The tights per se exhibits a simple, elegant look.  Yet the total matte appearance implies “to draw the slightest attention possible”.  You can pair it with other simple clothing to give a minimalist effect.  Better, you can match the tights with elaborate clothing or shoes to give a dynamic contrast.

As I said earlier that you could size up for a better fit in some areas.  Just remember to stretch the tights evenly when you roll up, so to create a uniformed look on the legs.

Fantastic!  The texture is very soft and smooth, like the finest silk caressing the skin.  The toe section is made looser, allowing more room for the toes to wiggle around.

I found the material traps heat quite well.  This can be a plus or a minus depending on when you are wearing it.

Final words

The Edelweiss 20 tights are excellent for their extreme stretchiness and comfortableness.  It is fine as a standalone item, but best served as a foil, bringing out the best of your outfit such as dress or shoes.

The Edelweiss 20 tights are slightly different from the Individual 20 tights in composition and pricing.  I have to get myself a proper pair of Individual 20 tights to get a sense of the difference, if any.

This item is available in online and in Wolford Outlet shops.  The original price is €34, £30 or $59, but there is usually a discount.
