Review: Wolford Twenties Tights

Aha!  I got myself a pair of Wolford classic, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.  So without further ado, let’s look into it…

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ Quality made micro fishnet tights.
⊕ Powder effect on the legs.

⊗ Mesh felt itchy on my skin.

Packaging & product description

The packaging uses the standard cardboard, tri-fold cardboard and transparent plastic sleeve manner.  All relevant information regarding the product are printed on the rear cover.

I have extracted the product description online, which reads:

“Confident and ultra-feminine: Micro-net tights which have been causing a sensation since the 20s. Make an extravagant statement when paired with different looks. The seamless finish provides great comfort.”

  • Comfortable sewn-on waistband featuring the Wolford logo
  • The net ends at the toes, making them perfect for open-toed shoes.
  • A stylish, classic item in a net look.

The last two bullet points are missing in the description on the rear cover.

Appearance & texture

The Twenties are micro-fishnet tights in matte fashion.  Its total length is 54cm when laid on a flat surface.  The texture is quite smooth to the touch, and extremely elastic.  The Wolford-signature waistband measures 2.5cm wide.  It is made of elastic band, and has plush on the inner side of the band.  The distance between the tip of the waistband to the crotch is 11cm.  There is a gusset, and the size of the mesh remains the same at the toe section.

The composition is 79% nylon and 21% elastane.

Size range

The available size I saw online is between XS and L.  If you are after larger sizes, you may have to check with retailers directly.  I have included the size chart below.  Size S is used for this review.

At the time of writing this review, there are 5 colours available online.  They are (from left to right): Petal Rose, Honey, Gobi, Ristretto and Black.  I bought Honey for this review.

Yes it did look really small, but trust me, the tights are extremely stretchy!  In fact, the fit was very good on me and true to the size recommendation.  The envelopment was also very good.  The tights hugs firmly hug the legs.  Mind though, I had marks on my hips and thigh after taking it off.

The toe seam was long enough but because of the elasticity of the mesh, it did squeeze the toes.  The waistband was a little tight on my waist though, so it dug in, but didn’t roll down.

I’d say the look is quite different due to the nude colour nature.  The colour Honey is darker than the Caramel, of which is darker than Gobi.  In Summer, during which my skin is more tanned, it is only slightly darker than my skin tone.  Given the threads are very thin, the mesh can be hard to see from a distance (see my calves in the images below as an example).  Or better, it gives a powder effect, making the tone of the legs look more even.  Hence, in contrast to Black colour, which is often related to sexy look, the nude colour appears to have a different purpose.

When observed closely, the mesh was very small and dense at the foot (around 2mm), and gradually become bigger at the thigh and hips (roughly 5mm).

The product description didn’t mention that the mesh has a very subtle reflective sheen.  I have taken a picture attempting to demonstrate this.

The main reason I don’t like the style is because the mesh felt itchy on my skin.  I don’t have such issue on macro-fishnet tights made from the same Brand.  So I suspect the problem lies on the thread contents.

Despite being fishnet, the tights actually warmed my legs pretty fast.  One plausible reason is that the tights hugged the legs very firm, so it rubs the legs and generate heat with every movement.

Final words

This is my second pair of the style.  I bought my first pair way before I started the blog.  It is still in my closet, as I seldom wear them due to the itchy feeling.  If you are less sensitive, this is a great style to have in your wardrobe.

The style is available all year round for €31, £29 or USD$53.  There are also promotions from time to time, e.g., AUD$10 at Wolford Melbourne (a partner boutique of Wolford).
