Review: Swedish Stockings Lia Premium 100d tights

I was going to try the first sheer tights by Swedish Stockings but I accidentally selected this without knowing it until it arrived on my doorstep.  Thus, this becomes my first review on tights of 100 denier.  It is also from a relative new brand, which you can learn more about it from here.

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ Eco-friendly made tights.
⊕ Elastic, breathable fingerband.

• Wide toe section.

⊗ Different hose length.
⊗ Size chart rather small and hard to read.
⊗ Plastic sleeve still used by a environmentally conscious company.

Packaging & product description

The tights were wrapped around a thin cardboard and sealed in a transparent plastic sleeve.  This is then packed into a cardboard box.  There is no image of a model wearing the style on the front cover.  Personally, I don’t see it as a necessity for solid colour, opaque tights.  The basic info of the style is shown on the bottom of the front cover, and the size chart and composition at the rear.  There is also a description about the Company’s principle on the rear cover.

I had two issues regarding the packaging.  I found the size chart difficult to read.  The black-coloured numbers are printed on a dark background, and the fonts are very small.  The second is that the packaging still include plastic.  This does seem quite odd for a company aimed provide eco-friendly products.  If Kunert can make their packaging totally out of recycled paper, it shouldn’t be too difficult to follow.  Fortunately, Swedish Stockings is aware of this and is already working on a solution as we speak.

Appearance & texture

The Lia Premium tights has an opaque (100 denier) appearance.  It is generally matte, but do exhibit reflective sheen under direct sunlight.  The texture is fairly soft and smooth.  The waistband is thin, measuring only 1.5cm wide.  The fingerband is 7cm wide and uses a construction different from the panty and hose.  In addition, there is a gusset.

The composition is 94% polyamide and 6% elastane.  The polyamide used is made from recycled nylon by-products.  It’s branded as EcoCare, by an Israeli company Nilit.

Size range

There are 6 sizes for this particular style, ranging from XS to 2XL.  The L size goes up to 185cm (6’1”), while XL and 2XL are designed for more curvy body, which I do find it interesting.  I have included the chart below.  Size M is used for this review.

At the time of writing this review, there are only Black colour available.  I bought Black for this review.

The fit was great and true to its size recommendation.  There was a good envelopment from panty to feet.  I did encounter a quality issue though.  The right hose was 4.5cm longer than the left one when laid on flat surface.  Such difference was noticeable, with the right hose being looser and form more wrinkles when bending the knee.

The toe section was particularly wide in my reckoning.  The ball of my foot is 10cm wide, yet there was still plenty of room for my toes to wiggle around.  Women with narrower feet would find the toe section to be too loose.

Worth mentioning is that the fingerband uses a different knitting from the rest of the panty.  It felt very stretchy, and was very comfortable on the waist.

I am not a fan of thick, opaque tights but the look was alright.  It did look a bit bulky with its thickness and sheer black.  Mind that the black is “very” black.  The colour was not even on the right side though I suspect it has to do with the extra length.

The texture is fairly soft and smooth, though somewhat synthetic to the skin.  Also, my skin started to feel itchy after half a day’s wearing.  I can’t comment on the warmness it provides, as I was wearing it on a 14°C day.  The breathability was moderate.

Final words

Putting the small quality issue aside, Lia Premium is a pretty decent opaque tights to wear.  It is also the first 100 denier tights that I know of, made from regenerated nylon.  If sustainability is an important factor for you when choosing opaque tights, this is a good choice to go for.

Lia Premium is available anytime for €24, £21 or USD$30.  Swedish Stockings offer free international delivery if you buy two pairs or more.  They also have a recycling programme.  When you send them three pairs or more of your worn stockings (any brand), you will receive a 10% discount code.
